A comment on Hospitals and "the Fear of Flying"

Thanks Edward. You hit the nail on the head. I am putting your post up on my Facebook page.

Your analogy to airline safety is well placed. According to public health experts there are 98,000 patient deaths in the United States each year due to avoidable (that's right - "avoidable" - medical errors. Those deaths are not just a situation where a patient suffered a bad result. The 98,000 deaths were found in a evaluation of real medical records, done by real doctors, for the Harvard School of Public Health. They eliminated all "close cases", the number is most certainly higher. Getting back to air travel safety, the 98,000 deaths corresponds to a fully loaded 737 crashing, without survivors, every week. Why doesn't the public stand up and say "Enough!" Probably because consumer safety advocates, like you, are not speaking up. Everyone should check out More ...

We can't let this happen on our watch.

A comment on The Right to Bury One's Dead: The Letter and Spirit of the Law

Thanks, Steve.

I should also note that it was the flippant attitude of defense counsel towards the parents' claims that probably effected the jury the most.

They may have offered $30,000 to settle at one time.

A comment on The Right to Bury One's Dead: The Letter and Spirit of the Law

Jim: Some days I'm amazed at the sensitive subjects where IB posts take us. Yours is a great topic for those involved and those who will be later involved. Having lost my father when I was 12 your post touches a part of me long ago put away, but not forgotten. You could not be more correct about the way the living feel about the one's they love now dead and need to bury. Well written and an excellent choice for a post. I take my hat off to you.
